Jonathan Caouette, hijo de familia disfuncional de Texas, cuenta su vida. Monta un torbellino psicodélico con sus recuerdos, fotos familiares, películas caseras grabadas desde los trece años, diarios en vídeo, cortos primerizos y por fin, su llegada a Nueva York, independizado y gay. Caouette aprendió a olvidar fingiendo frente a una cámara, educándose con series B de terror, con el teatro musical. Aprendió a espantar su niñez, el desamparo y los abusos, la esquizofrenia de su madre a la que vio violar, su paso por instituciones de caridad, la autodestrucción. Haciendo cine, Caouette se reinventó a sí mismo.
